Waterproof Dog Collars Built for Beach Life

Salt water. Sand. Surf. A nylon collar handles none of it well — it gets stiff, crusty and smells like low tide within a week. Our PVC collars don't absorb a thing. Rinse under the tap, clip back on, you're done.

Yeah, we say "Built Tough for Aussie Dogs." And yes, we know exactly what you picture when you read that — a Kelpie on a ute tray, ears back, staring down a paddock.

But tough is tough. The same PVC that survives an Aussie summer on a working dog doesn't even flinch at salt water. The same stainless hardware that handles a farm gate handles a beach every single day without rusting, seizing, or throwing a tantrum. We're not a working dog brand that tolerates beach dogs — we just build things properly, and it turns out properly built gear doesn't care whether you're in a paddock or at Bondi.

Oh — and have you seen our colours? Fluro yellow, neon pink, royal blue, berry, teal and eleven more. On a beach, in the surf, bolting away from you at full speed — your dog is going to be the best looking thing out there. Easy to spot. Hard to miss. Arguably better dressed than you.

Rinse it off. Clip it back on. Go again. 🐾

"It's been great for the beach, easy to clean!"

Why Beach Dogs Destroy Normal Collars

Salt water is hard on gear. It's not just the water — it's the salt crystals that build up inside the fabric weave, stiffen the material, and start corroding metal hardware from the inside out. Add sand working its way into every crevice, UV exposure bleaching the colour, and repeat daily exposure through summer, and most collars are wrecked within a season.

Nylon absorbs all of it. The smell alone is enough reason to upgrade. Cheap metal hardware rusts, buckles seize, and D-rings pit and corrode — sometimes to the point where you can't work the clip without a fight. For a dog that's in and out of the water every other day, you end up buying a new collar every few months and wondering why.

PVC doesn't absorb anything. Salt water beads off it. Sand rinses away. The stainless steel hardware won't rust, won't seize, won't give you grief at the car park after a swim. Buy it once and stop thinking about it.

🌊

Non-Porous PVC

Salt, sand and water bead straight off. Nothing absorbs into the material — no stiffness, no smell, no buildup.

⚙️

Stainless Steel Hardware

Won't rust, won't seize, won't pit. Built for repeated salt water exposure — the D-ring and buckle stay smooth and solid.

🔩

Riveted, Not Stitched

No thread to rot, fray or absorb moisture. Every collar is riveted with solid metal — no weak points, no surprises.

🚿

Rinse & Go

Thirty seconds under the tap after a beach session. That's the whole maintenance routine. Wipe, clip back on, done.

🌈

17 Bold Colours

Easy to spot in the surf, on the sand, or bolting down the beach ahead of you. Colour stays vivid — PVC doesn't fade like nylon.

Salt Water — What You Actually Need to Know

Is it safe in salt water?

Yes. The PVC webbing is completely non-porous — salt can't soak in, so there's nothing to crystalise inside the material or cause stiffness. The hardware is stainless steel, which handles repeated salt water exposure without rusting or corroding. Rinse it under fresh water after a beach session and it's done.

Will the hardware rust?

No. All Jacaranda hardware is stainless steel — D-rings, buckles, everything. It won't rust, pit, or seize up after ocean exposure. This is the single biggest difference between our collars and cheap pet store options that use plated hardware — plating wears off, stainless doesn't.

Will it smell after swimming?

No. Smell comes from moisture being absorbed into fabric and bacteria growing inside it. PVC is non-porous — nothing absorbs, so nothing smells. If anything, a quick rinse under the tap is all it needs.

Will the colour fade in the sun?

PVC holds colour significantly better than nylon, which bleaches out after a season of UV exposure. Our collars stay vivid. That said, like any coloured product, extended constant sun exposure over years will eventually have some effect — but we're talking years, not months.

Can it stay on in the water?

Yes. The buckle is a standard adjustable side-release — measure your dog's neck properly and it stays put in and out of the water. If your dog slips collars or you need more security, our martingale with buckle is worth a look — it tightens slightly under pressure and can't be backed out of.

Breeds That Live for the Beach

Some dogs choose the water. They're in before you've even parked. If yours is one of these, a waterproof collar isn't optional — it's just sensible.

Water Lovers

Labs, Goldens & Spaniels

Labradors and Golden Retrievers were literally bred to retrieve from water. Spaniels aren't far behind. These dogs hit the surf with zero hesitation and come out shaking water everywhere. A collar that absorbs all of it just means a wet, smelly car trip home. PVC means a quick rinse and you're good.

Active Beach Dogs

Kelpies, Border Collies & Active Breeds

Working breeds that hit the beach for exercise — long runs, fetch in the shallows, off-lead swims. The collar takes a beating from salt and sand exposure on top of daily hard use. PVC handles the beach as well as it handles the paddock — same product, same performance.

Don't Forget the Lead

A waterproof collar paired with a nylon lead defeats the purpose. Nylon leads absorb salt water, go stiff, and smell just as bad as nylon collars. Our leads are the same waterproof PVC construction — same non-porous material, same stainless hardware, same rinse-and-go maintenance.

A few other things worth a look if your dog's an active beach or water dog:

  • Long Lines (2.5m–10m) — same waterproof PVC, great for beach recall training or giving your dog more room to run without going fully off-lead. Rinses clean the same as the collar.
  • Martingale Collar with Buckle — if your dog backs out of a standard collar in the excitement of a beach run, the martingale is the answer. Tightens slightly under pressure, can't be slipped.
  • Slip Leads — for quick on-and-off at the car park or when you need one hand free on the beach. Same PVC, same hardware.
  • Puppy Collar & Lead — introducing a pup to the beach? Our 10mm puppy range is the same waterproof PVC in a smaller, lighter build. Start them right.
