Our Story — Jacaranda Collars
We're Sarah & Adam — and we make collars for dogs we'd be proud to own
Some businesses start with a business plan. Ours started with a gap in the market, a passion for dogs, and a workbench in Orange, NSW.
Jacaranda Collars is the creation of Sarah — designer, maker, and the driving force behind every collar and lead we produce. Sarah spotted what was missing: waterproof, durable, genuinely tough dog gear that didn't cost a fortune and didn't fall apart after a day on the farm, a muddy paddock, or a hard week's work in the Central West. She knew PVC webbing was the answer, and she built Jacaranda Collars around it from the ground up.
"We make gear we'd put on our own dog. That's the standard everything has to meet."
Adam handles the admin, the website, and everything behind the scenes — because behind every great maker is someone keeping the wheels turning. Together we work out of Orange in the Central West of NSW, the same town we both grew up in. There's something fitting about building something here — regional Australia is exactly the kind of place where dogs work hard, play harder, and need gear that keeps up.
Sarah
Sarah is the creative force behind every Jacaranda collar — designing, cutting, punching and riveting each one by hand. With a lifelong passion for dogs and an eye for what's missing in the market, she created Jacaranda Collars from scratch and keeps pushing it forward with innovations like the adjustable martingale with buckle and dual leads. She's also the reason the workbench is always a little chaotic and a lot of fun.
Adam
Adam keeps everything running — website, Google Ads, admin, markets, and making sure orders get out the door even when that means big days and late nights. He also makes collars alongside Sarah, which mostly involves goofing off, making each other laugh, and somehow still producing brilliant work. It's almost the perfect partnership. Almost.
We still do the markets — and we love it 🛒
You'll still find us at local markets around the Central West, and that's never going to change. There's something irreplaceable about meeting our customers face to face — watching them pick up a collar, feel the quality, and understand immediately why it's different. We're genuinely proud of what we make, and the markets are where we get to show it. Come say hi — we don't bite. The dogs might.
Made by hand. Every single one.
Every collar, every lead, every martingale is handmade by us. No factory, no shortcuts, no batch production. Each piece is measured and cut by hand, holes punched precisely, and finished with rivets — a stronger, more waterproof construction than stitching that holds up to everything an Aussie dog can throw at it.
When your order arrives it's been made from scratch by the same hands that designed it. That's not a marketing line — that's just how we do things.
Sarah doesn't just make collars — she improves them
Our adjustable martingale with buckle came from Sarah's frustration with traditional martingale designs that have no buckle — meaning you wrestle them over your dog's head every single time. She solved it. Our dual leads came from watching how people actually walk their dogs. Every product we sell exists because Sarah saw a problem and fixed it.
Why Jacaranda?
Sarah has always loved the jacaranda tree — bold, distinctive, unmistakably beautiful. It felt right for a brand built on colour, character and a bit of regional Australian soul. If you've ever seen a jacaranda in full bloom you'll understand — there's nothing quite like it. That's the standard we hold our collars to.
What we stand for
Handmade in Australia
Every piece made by us, every time. No exceptions.
PVC that performs
Waterproof, odour resistant, built for real Aussie conditions.
Honest pricing
Quality shouldn't cost a fortune. We keep it fair, always.
Dogs first
Every decision starts and ends with what's best for the dog.
We could have charged a fortune. We chose not to.
We could have built Jacaranda Collars around Biothane — it's a name that sounds premium and carries a premium price tag. But here's the thing: Biothane is simply a brand name for coated PVC webbing. The material is fundamentally the same as what we use. We chose to be upfront about that, price our products fairly, and let the quality speak for itself. You shouldn't have to pay a fortune for gear that genuinely works. That's not how we operate.
We started Jacaranda Collars at the local markets around the Central West and have grown from there — now shipping Australia wide and beyond. We're a small business and proud of it. Every order matters to us, every customer is real, and every collar that leaves our hands has been made with genuine care.
Thanks for supporting something handmade. It means everything.
