If you've ever done serious recall training with a cheap rope long line — tangled, stiff, soaking wet after ten minutes — you already know there's a better way. Our PVC long line dog lead doesn't tangle like rope, doesn't absorb water, and doesn't let you down when a determined dog hits the end at full speed. We didn't start making long lines at random. We built them for every owner training a dog or pup that needs room to learn, and for tracking and competition dog handlers who needed a lead that meets the Dogs Australia 10m minimum and handles the real conditions of a tracking trial.

The tracking trial rule: a minimum 10m lead

Dogs Australia tracking trial rules require dogs to work at the end of a minimum 10-metre lead. This applies across all states — NSW, QLD, VIC, SA, WA — and across all tracking titles from Preliminary Tracking through to Track and Search Grand Champion.

Our 10m long line meets that minimum. Smooth PVC that won't tangle as your dog works the track. Waterproof for early morning dew and wet paddock conditions. Light enough to manage in your hands while reading your dog. Stainless hardware that won't corrode or seize mid-trial.

The 8m is the trainer's lead — the length many handlers use while building foundation skills before stepping up to the full 10m. The 5m is where most people start: recall work, early scent introduction, and confidence building at distance.

Track and Search competitions — a newer ANKC discipline simulating finding a missing person across varied terrain including urban streets, gravel, and paddocks — follow the same lead requirements. Your gear needs to handle all of it. Ours does.

More freedom than a standard lead without the full commitment of a long line. Great for puppies learning about the world, urban walking in tight spaces, and introducing your dog to working at distance for the first time. Sold as part of our standard lead range.

How to use a long line — every situation it's the right answer

Dogs Australia tracking trials — the 10m meets the minimum lead length for all tracking titles and Track and Search competitions across Australia
Tracking dog training — build foundation scent work and handler distance with the 5m and 8m before stepping up to competition
Recall training — teach your dog to come back when called, with a safety net if they decide not to. The single most important skill any dog can learn.
Working dog training — give a kelpie or cattle dog room to work at distance while keeping them connected. Essential for developing range and direction commands.
Greyhound and sighthound exercise — greyhounds need to run but have zero road sense. A 10m long line lets them stretch out safely without the risk of a bolt.
Hunting dog training — range, quartering and recall in the field. Build the skills that matter before your dog works off lead in the bush.
Anxious or reactive dogs — give them space from triggers while staying connected. Distance helps reactive dogs process the world safely.
Puppies — let them explore, sniff and learn the world without the risk of bolting into danger. The 2.5m is the perfect starting point.
Beach and waterway walks — let your dog swim and splash while staying connected. Washes clean in seconds.
Unfenced parks and paddocks — freedom without the anxiety of going fully off lead.

Why PVC — especially for long lines

The longer the lead, the more the material matters. At 10m, rope tangles. Nylon webbing stiffens when wet, burns your hands when a dog pulls fast, and absorbs every smell it encounters. PVC does none of that — and on a tracking dog working through wet grass at 6am, that's the difference between a session that works and one that doesn't. Comparing materials? Why tracking handlers choose our 10m

A tracking dog working a scent trail needs to move freely and naturally. The handler needs to read the dog, manage the lead, and stay out of the way. A tangled, stiff or heavy lead is a distraction — and distractions cost you passes.

Our 10m long line is light, smooth running and lies flat when your dog is working. It comes with the same standard silver clip we use on all our leads, or a safety clip for strong dogs on medium collars and up. And because it's PVC, it doesn't stiffen in the cold or become unmanageable after a morning in wet grass. It just works.

Every long line comes in 15 colours. High-vis yellow and orange for dogs working in long grass. Classic tones for everyday use. And neon pink, because Sarah was right and we all know it.

Absolutely thrilled with our 10-metre Waterproof Long Line Dog Lead in fluoro pink from Jacaranda Collars! Fantastic customer service, incredibly quick and helpful responses, and the quality is absolutely superb.

We live in the city, and unfortunately our little fluff ball can’t safely be off lead. We do, however, have a lovely big oval nearby, and this gives her the freedom to sniff, explore and potter around while still keeping her safely connected to us.

The first time we used it, she couldn’t believe her little fluffy eyes when she looked up and realised we were quite a distance away. For our little 7kg fluff ball, it may be complete overkill, but the peace of mind that comes from knowing she’s attached to such a strong, beautifully made lead is worth every cent.
