Long Line Dog Leads Australia — Tracking Dogs, Training & Working Dogs
Long Line Dog Leads Australia — Tracking, Training & Working Dogs
Waterproof PVC long lines from 2.5m to 10m. The official competition length for ANKC tracking trials. Built with 450kg-rated hardware, 4 rivets per end, 16 colours. Handmade in Orange, NSW. Zero returns.
If you've ever done serious recall training with a cheap rope long line — tangled, stiff, soaking wet after ten minutes — you already know there's a better way. Our PVC long lines don't tangle, don't absorb water, and don't let you down when a determined dog hits the end at full speed. Four lengths. Sixteen colours. Built for every dog and every situation, from the backyard to the competition ground.
"I bought the 5m first and within a week I'd ordered the 10m as well. Now I use both depending on where we are. Best thing I've bought for my kelpie by a mile."
— Jacaranda Collars customer, repeat purchaserBuilt for ANKC Tracking Trials — The 10m Competition Standard
We didn't start making long lines at random. We built them specifically to service tracking and competition dog handlers — people who needed a lead that met the ANKC competition standard and could handle the real conditions of a tracking trial.
The official tracking trial rule: a minimum 10m lead
Dogs Australia tracking trial rules require dogs to work at the end of a minimum 10-metre lead. This applies across all states — NSW, QLD, VIC, SA, WA — and across all tracking titles from Preliminary Tracking through to Track and Search Grand Champion.
Our 10m long line is purpose-built for this. Smooth PVC that won't tangle as your dog works the track. Waterproof for early morning dew and wet paddock conditions. Light enough to manage in your hands while reading your dog. Stainless hardware that won't corrode or seize mid-trial.
The 8m is the trainer's lead — the length most handlers use while building foundation skills before stepping up to the full 10m competition distance. The 5m is where most people start: recall work, early scent introduction, and confidence building at distance.
Track and Search competitions — a newer ANKC discipline simulating finding a missing person across varied terrain including urban streets, gravel, and paddocks — follow the same lead requirements. Your gear needs to handle all of it. Ours does.
Choose your length — there's one for every situation
More freedom than a standard lead without the full commitment of a long line. Great for puppies learning about the world, urban walking in tight spaces, and introducing your dog to working at distance for the first time.
Shop 2.5m →The most popular length we sell. Enough distance for real recall training, bush walks, and a proper run — still manageable in most spaces. Bundled with a matching collar in the Adventure Pack and saves you 10%.
Shop 5m →Serious recall work, working dog training, and building the foundation skills for tracking competition. The length most tracking handlers train on before stepping up to the 10m competition standard. Popular with kelpie and cattle dog owners.
Shop 8m →The official minimum length required for ANKC tracking trials across all states. Built for tracking dogs working scent trails across paddocks, bush and varied terrain. Also the go-to for greyhound exercise, beach runs, and working dogs that need real distance.
Shop 10m →Every situation a long line is the right answer
- ANKC tracking trials — the 10m meets the minimum lead length requirement for all tracking titles and Track and Search competitions across Australia
- Tracking dog training — build foundation scent work and handler distance with the 5m and 8m before stepping up to competition
- Recall training — teach your dog to come back when called, with a safety net if they decide not to. The single most important skill any dog can learn.
- Working dog training — give a kelpie or cattle dog room to work at distance while keeping them connected. Essential for developing range and direction commands.
- Greyhound and sighthound exercise — greyhounds need to run but have zero road sense. A 10m long line lets them stretch out safely without the risk of a bolt.
- Hunting dog training — range, quartering and recall in the field. Build the skills that matter before your dog works off lead in the bush.
- Anxious or reactive dogs — give them space from triggers while maintaining control. Distance helps reactive dogs process the world safely.
- Puppies — let them explore, sniff and learn the world without the risk of bolting into danger. The 2.5m is the perfect starting point.
- Beach and waterway walks — let your dog swim and splash while staying connected. Washes clean in seconds.
- Unfenced parks and paddocks — freedom without the anxiety of going fully off lead.
Why PVC — especially for long lines
The longer the lead, the more the material matters. At 10m, rope tangles. Nylon webbing stiffens when wet, burns your hands when a dog pulls fast, and absorbs every smell it encounters. PVC does none of that — and on a tracking dog working through wet grass at 6am, that's the difference between a session that works and one that doesn't.
No rope burn
Smooth PVC surface. When a dog hits the end at speed, it runs through your hands clean. No friction, no burns.
100% waterproof
Tracking is done in early mornings. Dewy paddocks, wet grass, creeks. Rinse it off and it's ready. No drying time.
Tangle resistant
PVC webbing lies flat and doesn't grab itself the way rope does. Essential at 8m and 10m where tangles cost you a session.
Odour resistant
Non-porous surface means no scent absorption. Important for tracking work — your lead shouldn't interfere with your dog.
Easy to clean
Mud, red dirt, wet paddock — wipe it down or rinse it off. Two seconds and it's ready for the next session.
4 rivets per end
Where most leads use one or two, we use four. When a dog hits the end of a 10m lead at full sprint, the hardware needs to hold. Ours does.
Built to numbers that mean something
Why tracking handlers choose our 10m
A tracking dog working a scent trail needs to move freely and naturally. The handler needs to read the dog, manage the lead, and stay out of the way. A tangled, stiff or heavy lead is a distraction — and distractions cost you passes.
Our 10m long line is light, smooth running and lies flat when your dog is working. The stainless swivel clip moves freely without snagging on harness rings. And because it's PVC, it doesn't stiffen in the cold or become unmanageable after a morning in wet grass. It just works.
16 colours — including high-vis for working conditions
Every long line comes in the same 16 colours as our full range. High-vis yellow and orange for dogs working in long grass. Classic tones for everyday use. And neon pink, because Sarah was right and we all know it.
Every long line handmade in Orange, NSW with riveted stainless hardware. Same construction as our full collar and lead range.
