If you've ever done serious recall training with a cheap rope long line — tangled, stiff, soaking wet after ten minutes — you already know there's a better way. We didn't start making long lines at random. We built them specifically to service tracking and competition dog handlers — people who needed a lead that met the ANKC competition standard and could handle the real conditions of a tracking trial.

The official tracking trial rule: a minimum 10m lead

Dogs Australia tracking trial rules require dogs to work at the end of a minimum 10-metre lead. This applies across all states — NSW, QLD, VIC, SA, WA — and across all tracking titles from Preliminary Tracking through to Track and Search Grand Champion.

Our 10m long line is purpose-built for this. Smooth PVC that won't tangle as your dog works the track. Waterproof for early morning dew and wet paddock conditions. Light enough to manage in your hands while reading your dog. Stainless hardware that won't corrode or seize mid-trial.

The 8m is the trainer's lead — the length most handlers use while building foundation skills before stepping up to the full 10m competition distance. The 5m is where most people start: recall work, early scent introduction, and confidence building at distance.

Track and Search competitions — a newer ANKC discipline simulating finding a missing person across varied terrain including urban streets, gravel, and paddocks — follow the same lead requirements. Your gear needs to handle all of it. Ours does.

Recall training — teach your dog to come back when called, with a safety net if they decide not to. The single most important skill any dog can learn.

Why PVC — especially for long lines

The longer the lead, the more the material matters. At 10m, rope tangles. Nylon webbing stiffens when wet, burns your hands when a dog pulls fast, and absorbs every smell it encounters. PVC does none of that — and on a tracking dog working through wet grass at 6am, that's the difference between a session that works and one that doesn't.

A tracking dog working a scent trail needs to move freely and naturally. The handler needs to read the dog, manage the lead, and stay out of the way. A tangled, stiff or heavy lead is a distraction — and distractions cost you passes.

Our 10m long line is light, smooth running and lies flat when your dog is working. The stainless swivel clip moves freely without snagging on harness rings. And because it's PVC, it doesn't stiffen in the cold or become unmanageable after a morning in wet grass. It just works.

first of all i am a total gear snob! there are few and far companies i truly love and Jacaranda is a huge winner. you cannot substitute a good PVC collar, its so wet this winter, i really needed something that didn't need to be hung up to dry all the time, especially during club days and at sport trials where dogs are running on muddy ovals These collars are soft and flexible unlike other brands of this sort. i also found the sizing very generous. We normally use ruff wear collars which can go upward of $50 each, but you cant beat Jacaranda! under $20 , Handmade in AUS , Waterproof , Soft to the touch , Grippy (my new MUST for walking 3+ dogs together) and i trust these clips not to snap (i ordered custom from a well known CA company and that's how i found out we have good recall! thank you jacaranda , this is the kind of business we need to support, from farmers to city pups these collars are amazing for all <3

Super strong and really lovely colours!

We brought multiple different collars and leads we love the martingale sets, the training lead and ute straps we have a working pup and a house dog and they work great for both of them my house dog would break everything collar and lead we ever used and I'm happy to say that these have held up I'm a very happy customer we definitely never look back now

These collars are outstanding. The material is heavy-duty but soft enough that it doesn’t irritate any of my dog's skin. The buckle snaps tightly and feels completely secure against hard pulling dogs. I absolutely love the range of colours you can choose from. It has been through mud and water, washes easily, and does not hold odors. Fits all my dogs perfectly according to the size chart. Highly recommend these collars if you’re looking and needing something that’s durable and something that also looks nice! Great quality and bloody affordable!
